Ver los 600+ juguetes del catálogo →A travel game for kids from 4 years: your child places 9 magnetic tiles on the grid inside a metal tin to join two animals with an unbroken road. Ten double-sided challenge cards set the puzzles, solved by one child at a time.
Ref. : REFG56657
This travel game for kids opens like a book: your child lays the tin flat, and one half becomes the board: a three-by-three grid framed by animal medallions, among them a fox, a giraffe, a lion, a koala and a bird. Next comes a challenge card. Each side shows two pairs of animals joined by a line, and the task is to lay tiles on the grid so that every animal reaches its partner along a continuous path.
Every square tile, whether red, dark blue, yellow or light blue, carries a white track: a straight line, a bend, a crossroads or a T-junction. Your child turns a tile between their fingers, puts it down, looks, and tries another. Because the tiles are magnetic, they stay on the metal exactly where they were placed, so a half-built road waits patiently while your child thinks about the next square.
The Find the Way game is played alone, one card after another. That makes it a single-player travel game a child can pick up without waiting for a partner, and put down again at the end of a card without losing a round.
What this travel game for kids trains above all is spatial logic. To get from the fox to the lion, the road has to leave the fox on the right side, then turn at the right moment. Children learn to look at where a bend will lead before they put it down, and to choose between a crossroads and a straight line according to the direction they need. A T-junction tempts them early on; they soon notice it opens a branch the route does not need. It is an educational game in the plainest sense: the reasoning happens in the hands, tile by tile.
It also builds persistence. A road is either continuous or it is not, and your child sees straight away where it breaks, without an adult pointing it out. This is what the Montessori approach calls control of error: the material shows the mistake, and the child fixes it by turning a tile a quarter turn or swapping it for another.
The first time you bring out the Find the Way game, cover one of the two pairs on the card with your hand and work on the other only. Trace with your finger, together, the route the first animal should follow, then look for the tile that makes the first step out of its square. Add the second pair only once the first one links up without help.
The mistake to avoid is believing the colours must match. Only the white lines have to join from one tile to the next; the background colour does not count. Say so from the very start, otherwise your child will hunt for a solution that does not exist and conclude the card is impossible.
Once they have mastered the cards, turn the game round: your child chooses two animals from the border, builds the road between them, then clears the board and sets you the same challenge. Explaining their own route out loud is a good test of whether they really planned it.
At 4, one pair at a time is plenty, and that is how this game earns a place among travel games for 4 year olds: one clear goal, a handful of tiles and an answer the child can check alone. Played with both pairs, it becomes a natural choice among travel games for 5 year olds. The two roads share the same nine squares and must not get in each other's way, so the child has to plan the second route around the first, or rebuild the first to make room. Every side of every card poses a different problem, which is why the tin keeps coming back out.
Looking after it is simple. A dry cloth is enough for the metal tin; keep it away from water, like the cards. Store the tiles in the base with the cards on top, then close the lid, and the whole game is ready for the next trip.
The tin is both the board and the box, which makes it easy to take in the car or on the train: the magnetic tiles hold on the metal half, where a loose jigsaw in a bag would scatter. In that sense the tin is its own travel game board, with nothing to set up before play. It suits the quiet stretches of a journey, unlike car travel games that rely on spotting things out of the window, and it sits on a tray table as one of the simpler travel games for the plane.
Among children's travel games in the same range of tins, the shape sudoku is meant for older children, from 6, while Find the Way is aimed at younger ones. Like every magnetic travel game in that series, it is played by one child. Many a magnetic toy for kids is about building; here the magnets simply hold the tiles in place while the child thinks, which makes it more of a travel brain game than a construction set.
At home, it belongs with our logic games, and it sits comfortably next to our toys for 5 to 6 year olds for a child who already enjoys it at 4 and wants the harder cards.
It is recommended from 4 years. Start by linking one pair of animals, then move on to both pairs on the card.
No. Only the white lines need to form a continuous path; the colour of the tiles plays no part.
The tin holds 10 double-sided challenge cards. Each side shows two pairs of animals to connect using the 9 magnetic tiles.
Yes, that is what the format is for: the metal tin serves as the board, and the magnetic tiles stay on it instead of sliding about like loose pieces. It makes a calm travel game for kids on a long journey.
