Ver los 600+ juguetes del catálogo →This tractor puzzle from Goki has six wooden pieces to fit onto an illustrated board, including two geared wheels your child threads onto their pegs and then spins. The driver and the engine hide under the pieces. One of our wooden Montessori toys for small hands, from 12 months.
Ref. : REFG57702
The square board shows a sun and a meadow around the outline of a tractor. Your child picks up the red bonnet by its wooden knob and drops it into its space, yellow headlight at the front. Next comes the cab, a large piece with an open window through which the driver's face shows. Last come the wheels, the most fun part of this tractor puzzle: each one is built in two layers, a pale blue gear first, then a blue disc on top, both threaded onto a wooden peg on the board. With everything in place, your child spins the toothed wheels with a fingertip.
Taking the pieces off reveals what they were hiding: the driver, with red hair, a green cap and a blue steering wheel, and under the bonnet the engine with its yellow pistons and its fan. Everything can come apart and go back together, and many children do exactly that, over and over.
Holding the bonnet's knob between thumb and forefinger, aiming at the hollow, turning the piece until it drops in: this repeated movement builds the fine motor control the hand will later need for a spoon, then a pencil. Among toys to help with pincer grasp, the wheels add a harder step: the hole of the gear has to go over the peg, then the disc has to follow on top of it.
Each shape fits only its own space, and the picture printed on the board acts as a guide. A piece placed the wrong way round does not go in, so your child turns it until it sinks. This is the control of error found throughout the Montessori approach: the puzzle itself shows whether it is right, without an adult having to correct anything.
Put the completed puzzle in front of your child, on a low table or on the floor. Slowly lift one piece, the bonnet, show the engine drawn underneath, put it back, and let your child do the same. For the first sessions, offer only the bonnet and the cab: the two-layer wheels can come later, when the large pieces are easy. The usual mistake is to empty the whole board in one go; pieces jumbled on the table quickly discourage a one-year-old.
When your child manages alone, name each part together: the small front wheel, the big back wheel, the cab, the headlight, the steering wheel. A simple question ("where is the engine hiding?") turns the board into a little farm picture book.
From 12 months, your child mostly lifts and replaces the bonnet and the cab. Later, the wheels go on and the gears start turning; children who enjoy cog toys often spend longer spinning them than building the tractor. By then the tractor puzzle also works as a language game: colours (red, yellow, blue), round and toothed shapes, the names of the parts. It holds its place among farm toys for two year olds as well as among first puzzles.
Starting with two large pieces and adding the wheels later isolates one difficulty at a time, a principle behind many Montessori toys for toddlers. Here the puzzle builds that progression in: the hardest pieces are also the last ones a child wants to try.
The board and pieces are made of painted plywood. Wipe them with a barely damp cloth and let them dry in the open air; avoid soaking and the dishwasher, as plywood swells with moisture. Keep the six pieces on the board between sessions so the gears and discs stay together.
On many peg puzzles for little ones, each piece goes in with a single movement. The tractor puzzle adds two more: threading the stacked wheels, and turning the gears, which rewards your child when the vehicle is complete. Tractor jigsaw puzzles ask for a different skill, joining edges rather than filling outlines; here every piece has its own place and a picture underneath to check against.
As farm toys for toddlers go, this one sits on a table rather than rolling across the floor, which makes it a calm activity for a quiet moment. For more farm play, see our children's farm toys; when your child has mastered this format, larger sets are waiting among our wooden puzzles.
From 12 months, according to the maker. The youngest start with the bonnet and the cab; the wheels and their gears come next.
Six pieces: the bonnet, the cab, and for each wheel a gear and a disc, threaded one on top of the other onto a wooden peg. When both layers are on, the wheels turn on their axle.
The driver at the wheel behind the cab, and the engine with its yellow pistons under the bonnet: clues that help your child put each piece back in its place.
Use a slightly damp cloth, then let it air-dry. Avoid putting it in water: plywood swells with moisture.
